Consultation on a Strategy for Replacing Cell Fusion Cultivars

Dear IFOAM – Organics International Member,

A motion passed by our General Assembly in 2014 requested IFOAM – Organics International to lead the development of a strategy to replace cultivars derived from cell fusion techniques in organic production systems.

IFOAM – Organics International convened an expert working group to implement the motion. The working group prepared an analysis of the global situation and a proposed strategy. We hereby request your review and comments so that we may further improve it.

At the next General Assembly, which is immediately following the 19th Organic World Congress in New Delhi, India in November 2017, the membership of IFOAM – Organics International is expected to vote on the strategy.

The current draft has two parts:

(1) Background and situation analysis.
(2) Strategy.

We welcome your feedback on both, and especially invite suggestions for further elaboration of the strategy, particularly regional/national mobilization and implementation.

Access the draft here.

The deadline for comments is 24 March 2017.

Please submit comments to Diane Bowen (Working Group Coordinator), d.bowen@ifoam.bio.

Thank you for your interest and input on this important topic.

Diane Bowen
